Jeju Special Self-Governing Province participated in the Republic of Korea’s technology exhibition booth at COP29 in Azerbaijan, showcasing its vision to become a “Net Zero City” by 2035. The promotional brochure highlighted Jeju’s bold roadmap for energy transition, centered on green hydrogen, renewable energy, and distributed innovation.
Key initiatives include:
Development of two public-led 3GW offshore wind farms and two 150MW hydrogen power plants
Full-scale implementation of green hydrogen production, storage, and refueling systems
Operation of Korea’s first commercial green hydrogen plant (600 kg/day) and hydrogen-powered buses
Expansion to 300 hydrogen buses, trams, vessels, and garbage trucks
Green hydrogen applications across public and private sectors, including buildings and logistics
Island-wide hydrogen mobility and fueling infrastructure
Presented under the theme “Not a Choice, but a Matter of Survival,” Jeju’s model represents a leading example of carbon-free innovation and sustainable island transformation.
