Jeju’s Clean Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Transition Scenario Announced on May 1, 2024
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has released a long-term scenario for energy transition based on clean hydrogen and renewable energy. This plan sets a bold target of achieving 100% renewable and green hydrogen-based electricity generation and net-zero emissions by 2035.
Key objectives include:
Transforming Jeju into a global hub for green hydrogen
Building a flexible energy system using wind, solar, hydrogen, and energy storage
Promoting hydrogen mobility, clean transport, and all-electric solutions in daily life and industry
Creating energy clusters and decentralized systems including VPPs and microgrids
Supporting declining industries and protecting vulnerable groups
Strengthening international cooperation and national policy alignment
The scenario outlines phased goals from 2024 to 2035, including offshore wind, large-scale hydrogen production, and clean energy-based data centers. Legal and institutional reforms will support clean hydrogen certification, RE100 implementation, and the creation of innovation zones.
